UAE nationals and residents are granted the Advertiser Permit for one year, renewable annually. Visitors are granted a permit valid for 3 months, renewable for a similar period. As part of a support initiative for content creators, the permit is currently issued free of charge for 3 years to UAE nationals and residents. Renewal can be completed easily through the UAE Media Council’s online platform.
What is an Advertiser Permit, and who must obtain it?
An Advertiser Permit is an official license issued by the UAE Media Council for individuals who engage in advertising activities on social media — whether with compensation or without.
Any individual who publishes promotional content is required to obtain this permit.
How long is the permit valid?
UAE nationals and residents: 1 year, renewable annually. Visitors: 3 months, renewable for a similar period. As a support initiative, the permit is currently issued free of charge for 3 years to nationals and residents, and can be renewed online through the UAE Media Council’s platform.
What documents are required for the application?
Typically, applicants must provide:
- The applicant must be at least 18 years old (with the possibility of age-based exceptions at the Council’s discretion).
- Must have good conduct and have not violated any media content standards in the past.
- UAE citizens and residents must obtain a trade license to practice electronic media from the relevant authority.
- A visitor permit may be issued for individuals registered under an advertising agency or talent management agency accredited by the Council.
Can I renew the permit before it expires?

Is the permit mandatory for all social media advertisers?
Yes. The Advertiser Permit is mandatory for any individual or influencer conducting advertising activities in the UAE, whether paid or unpaid.
Who is eligible to apply for an Advertiser Permit?
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old (the Council may grant exceptions for certain age groups).
- Applicants must have good conduct and no relevant violations on record.
- UAE nationals and residents must hold an economic license to practice electronic media from the relevant authority.
Does the permit differ for visitors who are not UAE residents?
Yes. Non-resident content creators must apply for a “Visitor Advertiser” permit and register with a licensed advertising agency or talent management agency approved by the UAE Media Council. This permit is valid for up to 3 months, renewable for a similar period.
Are there any exemptions from the permit requirement?
Yes, two cases: individuals advertising a product or service they personally own, or a company they own, through their personal account; and individuals under 18 who share educational, sports, cultural, or awareness-related content.
What are the holder's obligations after receiving the permit?

- Verify that the advertising party is not a fake company or using a false identity or fraudulent bank account.
- Clearly display the permit number on all accounts used for advertising.
- Only publish ads through an account registered with the Council and linked to the permit.
- Obtain approval from relevant authorities before publishing, where required by law.
- Complete tax registration under applicable UAE tax law and obtain a tax registration number.
